Way before other local Singapore jazz vocalists sang their way  to the top of the heap in the 1990s, Yvette Atienza had already established herself as a singular talent with astonishing versatility in the Singapore music scene. Singing professionally for almost 25 years now, Yvette has experienced performing and recording with numerous well-known international artistes and local Singapore bands singing everything from pop, rock, even Country music! However, she has finally found where her heart is – Jazz and Latin music.

Yvette was born in Manila, Philippines to a concert pianist/piano teacher Filipino mother and a very typical latin-temperamental Spanish father.  “Growing up in a house where piano students came and went, where choral groups would fill our house to the brim while my mother taught and conducted them, where my dad would sing while my mom played the piano every night, and most importantly, where I learned to play the piano from the age of three, there was never a lack of music or passion for music in my home! Music is just too much in me. Believe me, I didn’t even think of wanting to be a singer at all. I liked to sing and play the piano, but to make a singing as a profession was the farthest thing from my mind! But music was too much in my blood. Immersed and steeped in music daily while growing up, Music just had to find me! I couldn’t run away from it!”

At the St. Theresa’s College and De La Salle University in Manila, Yvette was an active member in her school glee club and choral group performances so much so that right after university, she was offered to join a band. Starting off with the very established Clique band in Manila, she gained valuable experience at Camelot Hotel before joining the wildly popular Powerplay band headed by musical master Mon Faustino to tour Singapore and Malaysia.
